What Roe Did When the abortion decisions were publicly released on January 22, 1973, the Justices lost significant control of them, and the decisions developed a political and social dynamic of their own. The Justices nationalized an issue that, until Roe, had been a state issue. By nationalizing abortion, they nationalized the politics of abortion.
